The Finnish phone giant has finally announced that they will not be re-entering the smartphone market after all, dispelling all the rumours prior to the announcement stating the opposite. It is noted that Nokia’s contract with Microsoft, the Finnish giant is not allowed to launch any phones bearing its name until the second half of next year. Below is the official statement by Nokia :
Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false, and include comments incorrectly attributed to a Nokia Networks executive. Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets.
And so, with the statement above, Nokia has pretty much officially pulled out from the mobile phone consumer market. Aww man, we had such high hopes.
