With the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 coming pretty soon, it looks like Maxis might be the first telco to officially bring it in. The company just opened a registration of interest (ROI) page on its website, with a giant number 7 that leaves little doubt what phone it is for.
The telco tried to be coy, using teaser copy: "It's not just big, it's Galactic. Something epic is coming to Maxis." Well, looking at the website code, the banner image is named "desktop_hero_banner_samsung_galaxy_note_7.jpg" so we think that's pretty obvious what the ROI is about.
It's likely the phone will be offered with its Maxis One plans and perhaps also be offered as part of its Zerolution hire-purchase scheme.
So far, neither Digi, Celcom nor U Mobile have made any related announcements but we'll let you know once they do. Being a premium flagship phablet, we expect the phone to be priced around RM2600 to RM3000, as Samsung pricing is usually pretty predictable when it comes to its flagships.
Samsung made an unusual move by skipping the '6' number entirely, perhaps to share the same naming conventions with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Less confusion, more consistency, which is not a bad thing to be sure.
If you're considering getting one of your own, here's what we know so far about the phone. It will be launching officially 2 August at its coming Unpacked event and we'll be sure to keep you updated on the phone's final specs and features.
