Maxis joins the affordable data plan war with MaxisGo

In the current economy, cheaper is a good thing

Recently Malaysia has been bombarded withaffordable data plans from U Mobile, Digi and Celcom. Now, Maxis intends to join the fight with MaxisGO, a postpaid plant with 2GB data at only RM48/month and 100 minutes of calls and 100 SMSes each month, with a catch.

What is the difference with MaxisGo and the current SurfMore plan?  The former's quota is split into two, 1GB which is available for you to use throughout the day and the other 1GB will be restricted for off peak hours usage, which is between 2AM to 7AM. The off peak data is only available after 30 July 30 and as for the 100 minutes calls and 100 SMSes, it is for calls and SMSes throughout all networks in Malaysia.

Additional top-ups of data is not really cheap, with 1GB going for RM48, 500MB for RM38, 200MB for RM28 and to as low as 100MB for RM2 (but it only lasts a day).

At the end of the day, this plan is more suitable for those who use a small to moderate amount of data but relies more on calls and texts as the SurfMore 50 plan offers a much better data plan. There are also no extra charges if data quota is exceeded, and roaming is available for RM38/day supported in 106 countries.
