Malaysian taxis to take on Uber, GrabCar with own app

MesraCab app will levy fee of RM2 for each successful booking

Malaysian taxi drivers are now attempting to hit out against ride-hailing apps such as Uber and GrabCar by coming up with an app of their own.

MesraCab works a lot like MyTeksi, allowing people to hail cabs, and charging RM2 for each successful booking.

To register for the app, taxi drivers must have 100 per cent metered taxis approved by Malaysia's Land Public Transport Commission and must be registered at any one of Malaysia's 23 taxi associations.

The app is expected to launch some time in February and its goal? To 'take back' the customers local cab drivers say they've lost to the likes of Uber.
