The Japanese PM showed up as Super Mario in geeky nod to Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Japan is crazy in the best way possible

In case you missed it, the preview of the 2020 Olympics at the closing ceremony of this year’s edition of the games was quite unlike any other. For one, the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe appeared out of a green pipe dressed as - who else - but Super Mario.

Aside from that Super Mario reference, the video leading up to his appearance also featured Doraemon and Hello Kitty alongside more conventional athletes. Unfortunately, there was no sign of Pikachu.

As you can expect, the internet's mind was collectively blown.

Clear our 2020 schedule, we know where we’ll be.
