If you follow Xiaomi’s Singapore Facebook page, you’re already in the know of the company’s imminent product launch on 10 March (at 3pm) – that’s tomorrow for all those of you with no track of day or time.
Xiaomi’s Malaysia Facebook page states the product launch will be a day after, on 11 March (at 10am). Based on teasers posted on both pages, we suspect that it will be the same device that gets unveiled, just on two different dates.
The company has been on a roll this year, in terms of unveiling new devices, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Since a local launch is to happen, we predict it will include the local availability of what the Chinese vendor has previously shown off.
That narrows down our options to just a handful of devices. One of them is the Xiaomi Mi Note range, which comes in regular and Pro versions.
There are a few differences between the two. The Mi Note comes equipped with a Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz chipset, 3GB of RAM as well as a Full HD, 3D curved Gorilla Glass 3 display. On the other hand, the Mi Note Pro comes with a Snapdragon 810 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and a 2K screen.
One more possibility...
The other possibility is Xiaomi’s Redmi 2, which was unveiled sometime in early January. This smartphone is somewhat similar to its predecessor, but comes in a more compact frame.
It also boasts a Sharp-branded 720p IPS screen with 312 ppi, an 8MP shooter on the back, a 2MP snapper on the front, a 64-bit Qualcomm 410 quad-core processor, and 1GB of RAM amongst other features.
Either way, going by the number of people that have been snapping up Xiaomi devices, we’re sure there’s going to be much interest in this local launch. Now, we just have to get through this wait…
