Just days ago, there was a rumour indicating that Huawei might be dropping the “Ascend” name from its future devices. And now, a new smartphone leak of a Huawei device further supports that claim.
Pictures of what sources say is the Huawei Mate 7 Compact have been posted online, courtesy of @leaksfly. As the name implies, the “Ascend” title has been cut off from the branding, and it’s said to be a smaller version of the already official Huawei Ascend Mate 7.
Although the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is a 6in phablet, the alleged Huawei Mate 7 Compact is rumoured to be downsized to 5.5in, just half an inch smaller than its full-sized sibling. Besides that, going by the leaked pictures, there doesn’t seem to be any changes to the overall look of the purported device.
Not a smart move?
We’re not sure how this is going to take off, considering that the alleged unit’s just a tad bit smaller than the original and looks pretty much the same too. Perhaps, if there were any leaks in its specs, it could be a differentiating factor.
Sources speculate that there’s a possibility that a HiSilicon SoC will be embedded within the device (if it makes its debut), since Huawei's generally prefers using its own chipsets in its mobile devices. But all we’ve got for now is its alleged screen size only.
Word’s also on the street that this device will be showcased at the MWC 2015 trade show at Barcelona in early March, so there’s not that long a wait time if you’re expecting the device from Huawei.
