No sign of the rumored tablet anywhere, though
Here's what the Xiaomi Redmi Note phablet will look like

Although there were rumours that a Xiaomi tablet was going to be the big ‘surprise’ launch this week, it turns out we were wrong all along. Instead, what the company has outed is a 5.5in phablet, the Xiaomi Redmi Note.

A 5.5in screen feels a bit small on the phablet side of things, but it is still a sizeable 0.5in bigger than their current flagship the Mi3, and 0.8 inches bigger than the current Redmi. Good if you've got huge hands, we suppose.

Aside from the picture, there's still no official info on what the specs will be. However, GizChina did mention that according to official network licenses, we could expect an octa-core Mediatek or quad-core Snapdragon model with WCDMA 3G support. Other supposed features include 1GB and 2GB RAM options, dual-SIM support, and microSD memory card expansion.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note will be launched sometime later this week in China, and pre-orders will start around the same time. There's no word on its availability outside of China yet, but given the company's aggressive global expansion plans, it won't be long before it comes to Malaysia.
