Henry Golding gets lead in Singapore-based 'Crazy Rich Asians'

Golding will star alongside Fresh Off the Boat's Constance Wu

Upcoming TV show Crazy Rich Asians will have both a Malaysian and Singaporean connection.

Its male lead is Henry Golding, a half-English, half-Malaysian Iban while the show itself is showcasing the lives of wealthy Chinese families in Singapore.

Singapore flavour

Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Golding's casting, made after a worldwide search in a bid to hire an all-Asian cast. The biggest name so far announced is Constance Wu, currently starring in the breakout TV hit Fresh Off The Boat.

Crazy Rich Asians ia based on the hit novel written by Kevin Kwan. Wu will play Rachel Chu, an American-born economics professor who finds out her boyfriend Nick (Golding) is impossibly rich when she follows him to a wedding in Singapore. Chu then has to deal with all the women in his social class grasping after Asia's most eligible bachelor: her boyfriend.

Director John M Chu is hoping to shoot the show on location in Singapore if possible and who knows, more Singaporean faces might just make an appearance.
