Google might be planning its own smart headphones

Google Assistant-enabled earphones? Sign us up

Seems Google isn't going to stop at new smartphones - it might be offering more devices and what's particularly interesting is the possibility of AI-enabled headphones.

A Google AI future

Where does all this info come from? A look at the code of the latest beta of the Google app. There are references to a new device type - 'Bisto'. Bisto is apparently a pair of headphones that run Google Assistant.

The exact snippet looks like this:

<string name=”bisto_magic_pairing_assistant_prop_text”>”Your headphones have the Google Assistant. Ask it questions. Tell it to do things. It’s your own personal Google, always ready to help.”</string>

More code inspections find references to specific buttons as well as the ability for the headphones to get OTA updates.

Due to the many references to buttons, the headphones might be over-ear instead of in-ear ones such as the AirPods. Since these are also Bluetooth-enabled, these will probably also be wireless headphones as well.

Besides the earphones, there's also talk Google will also be releasing an entry-level Home speaker to add to its AI-enabled range. The future, at least where Google is concerned, is AI-powered.
