Facebook is not so subtly trying to challenge YouTube with its Facebook Creator App, which is basically a rebadging of its Facebook Mentions app.
Fighting for all the content creators
Facebook Mentions was previously limited to verified accounts, which meant it basically locked out any aspiring content creator and even those with decent followings but not enough to get verified.
The app now offers users the ability to consolidate comments from Facebook and Instagram as well as messages from Facebook Messenger. It also adds camera effects and frames as well as the option to post to Facebook Stories.
For Facebook Live streamers, there's now a Live Creative Kit that lets creators add things such as stickers, intros and outros as well as graphic frames. And to make social media marketers happy, there's also access to metrics within the app.
The app will only roll out to iOS users to start with from today onward, but expect an Android version to come soon.
