I don't know about you but my timeline had a few of my friends revealing that the articles they shared were being tagged as spam. A lot of the posts tagged as spam had to do with COVID-19, but there were those unrelated to the issue as well being targeted.
According to Guy Rosen, Facebook's vice president of integrity, this was due to a "bug in an anti-spam system". Upon discovering this bug, Facebook had fixed and resolved the issue accordingly, then restored the affected posts. “We’ve restored all the posts that were incorrectly removed, which included posts on all topics — not just those related to COVID-19,” Rosen explained.
Facebook also clarified the issue was with an automated moderation tool and was not related to any changes to its moderator workforce. This could be an attempt to shut down false news on COVID-19 on the platform that backfired, especially with staff possibly sent home due to COVID-19.
Thankfully it has now been settled accordingly!
