Europa Universalis gives out free DLC featuring historical women badasses

Paradox's free DLC coincided with International Women's Day that happened over the weekend

Who doesn't like free stuff? Paradox Interactive just released a free DLC for its popular and very deep strategy game, Europa Universalis IV. With the DLC, you can now play as famous women leaders of history, including Queen Elizabeth I and Sophie Germain.

More women, more options

The DLC is pretty impressive – it adds 100 great women of history and the characters can be generated through event triggers. Some may join your court as advisors, while some could even rule or lead.

In a statement, Thomas Johansson, head of Paradox Development Studio, said “We thought that International Women's Day was the best time to do a little bit to help balance the scales and introduce our audience to some very interesting people."

Besides the 100 new events, there will be new female portraits for the 22 advisor types in the game.

Paradox is well-known for its plethora of deep strategy games as well as fun titles like Magicka (also available on mobile). Europa Universalis has a high learning curve, though, but its fanbase seems to revel in the complexity and options the game affords. Think a far more cranial-challenging version of CIvilisation with the option of marrying off various family members. It's also popular for its ability to incorporate player mods, which adds replayability to an already engrossing title.

The download is available now for anyone with a working copy of Europa Universalis IV.
