Case Remote brings smartphone convenience to your DSLR

Heathen new-wave photographers finally get the attention they deserve
Case remote brings smartphone convenience to your DSLR

The name is a dead giveaway - Case Remote is a smart wireless controller. What's not too obvious is what it controls - a camera, in particular, a DSLR.

Attach it to your DSLR, and it connects remotely to your Android or iOS smartphone. Hence, you can control and take pictures on your DSLR through an app on your smartphone.

It’s aimed at the intermediate camera-user market though clearly issued from the most current smartphone camera sensibilities. People are generally more willing to fiddle with buttons on an app rather than the various knobs on a DSLR – Case Remote gives you that functionality within an interface that's inherently more comfortable.

People are also more used to having near-instant gratification with your pictures. Snap! There it goes on your Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. DSLR cameras unfortunately need some manual labour before they're plugged in. Case Remote lets you have the best of both worlds; it'll also transmit photos taken on your DSLR straight to your smartphone for quick sharing.

It appeals to our smartphone camera sensibilities in one other way. The app offers a live view of what the DSLR is showing, with an interface more familiar to modern smartphone users. It’s pretty heretical, considering most DSLR users wouldn’t be caught dead aiming shots using the DSLR screen but hey, times change I guess.

The IndieGogo campaign has received so much support that they’ve started this most recent follow-up campaign to cash them in. Though it’s worth noting there are some matters one should consider. This second campaign is for an upgraded version of Case Remote, though backers of an earlier campaign for the older version have not yet shipped. On the bright side, the makers are shipping the new Case Remote to the older backers for no additional cost.

Otherwise, the campaign looks rather low-risk and they’ve claimed that mass production is almost complete. Currently, the Case Remote is going for US$79 (RM248) plus an additional USD$20 (RM97) for shipping outside China.
