Canon Officially Unveils New EOS RP Mirrorless Full-Frame Camera

The second addition to their EOS R range is the smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera available

Originally reported as a leak, Canon has officially announced the second entry to their EOS R series with the smaller and lighter Canon EOS RP. The camera weighs only at 485 grams and is equipped with the RF lens mount that sports a short flange focal distance of 20mm. It comes with a 3-inch Vari-angle LCD screen that allows users to shoot from unique angles, and also a customisable Electronic Viewfinder that provides 100% coverage and accurate details.

The camera is powered by Canon’s DIGIC 8 image processor with Auto Lighting Optimiser feature which balances the brightest and darkest point to accentuate the details of images to deliver a well exposed image or in-backlit conditions. It’s also equipped with a 26.2 MP Full-Frame CMOS sensor with a native ISO range of 100 - 40,000 which can be expanded to ISO range of 50 - 102,400 to produce low-noise images with rich details even in low light. Other visual capture features include Dual Sensing Image Stabilisation for fast accurate shots, Digital Lens Optimiser that corrects aberrations and distortions, and lightning fast autofocus up to 0.05 seconds with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF.

Video-wise, the EOS RP is able to shoot in ultra HD with 4K at 24p/25p. The Touch & Drag Autofocus feature can create pull-focus effects and enable focus transitions by simply moving their finger from one end to another of the frame on the LCD screen. Stabilisation during video shoots are further enhanced by the Combination IS which provides stable footages without the use of a tripod.

The camera comes with a LP-E17 battery pack which can be charged externally and even directly by using the optional PD-E1 USB Power Adapter which uses Hi-Speed USB 2.0 or USB-C Interface. Transferring images from the EOS RP to a smart device or computer is done via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy technology by utilising the Canon Camera Connect app. This enables users to send images to their devices simultaneously while still taking photos with the camera.

The Canon EOS RP will be available in March with the retail price of MYR 5,999 for body only, and MYR 10,999 for the body and the RF 24 - 105mm f/4L IS USM kit lens.
