BlackBerry is unfortunately going down the 'if you can't beat them, join them' route again, this time with stickers.
Stickers. No, that can't be right.
For some reason BlackBerry thinks that BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) will be made better by the ability to send cute stylised drawings in lieu of the boring emoticon or smiley.
Of all days to roll out the new BBM feature, BlackBerry did it on April Fool's Day, which of course led people into thinking it was all a hoax. Alas, a quick check on Google Play proved its existence.
The stickers come in packs which you can buy for US$1.99 or less, with BlackBerry promising more stickers to come.
BBM becoming Line?
Fortunately it's not just stickers in the latest update. You also get to increase the file transfer size to 16MB and then you can also share pictures in group chats.
There are also other bug fixes and performance improvements, so updating your BBM won't be a total waste of time.
Will we see BBM become the next Line with customisable backgrounds, avatars and the like? Who knows.
