As another major series ends its run, another will start a whole new season. Season 5 of the critically-acclaimed sci-fi anthology Black Mirror, is set to be released on Netflix next week on the 5th of June. It’s going to be the shortest season yet with only 3 episodes, and all 3 shorts have their titles, descriptions, and trailer revealed today.
Episode 1: Smithereens
The first episode tells the tale of a “cab driver with an agenda to become the centre of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control.” The episode stars Andrew Scott, who famously portrays Jim Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock, newcomer Damson Idris, and Topher Grace, who is known for his work on That 70’s Show, Spider-Man 3, and even starring in an episode of another Netflix anthology series, Love, Death & Robots.
Episode 2: Rachel, Jack And Ashley, Too
The second episode is about a lonely teenager who yearns to connect with her favorite pop star, whose charmed existence isn’t quite as it appears. The episode stars Miley Cyrus, also known as the former Hannah Montana, Angourie Rice who plays Betty Brant in Spider-Man: Homecoming and its sequel Far From Home, and TV actress Madison Davenport.
Episode 3: Striking Vipers
The last episode is a story of two estranged college friends who reunite later in life, which triggers a series of events that could alter their lives forever. The cast of this episode is notable for featuring Anthony Mackie and Pom Klementieff, who play The Falcon and Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ludi Lin, who played the villains in DC’s Aquaman.
Overall, this new season looks to recapture Black Mirror’s penchant for dystopian stories set in a hypothetical and totally believable near future. Catch it on Netflix next Wednesday to fully immerse yourself in the horrors that await you in this new season.
