Bike in a box: Flat pack wooden Sandwichbike goes on sale

The wooden bike is supplied as a flat pack kit, and is available to buy this week for DIY fans

The Dutch inventors say they were inspired by flat pack furniture - but here's hoping you aren't left with a few extra screws when building this.

If you trust your DIY skills and aren’t the kind of person who always finishes a piece of Ikea furniture with several screws left over, then the Sandwichbike could be for you.

"Inspired by the concept of flat packing and home assembly, we were driven to develop a new bicycle concept," it's inventors say.

The Sandwichbike is actually made out of two wooden plates, which make it so easy to put together that the firm says anyone can do it at home.

"The contemporary design, the large surface of the frame and the absence of welding joints makes the frame visually attractive and easy to assemble."

The €799 (RM3499) bike is delivered in a flat cardboard box and can be assembled at home with a few basic tools.

"With the excellent driving dynamics, the Sandwichbike is a unique and highly sophisticated product," the firm claims.
