Tech giant ASUS has been dropping several hints and teasers on their upcoming gaming phone, the Republic of Gaming (ROG) Phone 2, as its launch looms ever closer. As far as we know (and what has been confirmed by the company themselves), the phone will have a 120Hz display and support 30W fast charging capabilities. In terms of the phone’s design, ASUS has been extremely tight lipped but we may have a rough idea of how it looks like thanks to a recent leak.
The leaked images of the alleged ROG Phone 2 from Weibo were uploaded by leakster Sudhanshu on Twitter and Slashleaks earlier today. From what we see based on the alleged leak, the ROG Phone 2 looks… little to no different than its predecessor. If the leaks are true, we can’t help but feel disappointed if ASUS have decided not to innovate on the phone’s frontal design. Like its predecessor, the ROG Phone 2 sports thick bezels on its top and bottom, with a selfie camera housed on its top right. Other than sporting a ROG themed Android UI, there’s nothing much else to be said about the phone as the original leaker had not taken more detailed photos or provided multiple angles, especially a view of its back.
On the other hand, ASUS has also officially revealed that the ROG Phone will be the first smartphone equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. The 855 Plus is largely identical to its predecessor but has a higher clock rate of 2.96GHz which is 4.2% faster. The upgrade also features an improvement to the Adreno 640 GPU and promises 15% increase in graphical performance.
The ASUS ROG Phone 2 will be officially launched on July 23 2019. Stay tuned to Stuff Asia for the latest developments on ASUS’ upcoming flagship gaming smartphone.
