Apple wants to reward you with a special Ring in the New Year challenge

Give your 2017 good vibes by unlocking an exclusive achievement with your Apple Watch

You might have had a rough 2016 meeting your targets, or failed to follow the new year’s resolutions you set yourself at the start of the year. Forget all that, because 2016 is a piece of crap almost done and dusted.

It’s time for a fresh start and Apple is setting a realistic goal for you: literally ring in the new year by completing your Activity rings every day for a full week to unlock a special achievement you can brag about for all eternity. Also, special stickers for Messages.

Step 1: Tap that special notification

When you put on your Watch today, watch out for the special notification that will only come through once. If you miss it, you can locate the (yet) unearned Achievement within your iPhone's Activity app. Don't panic, there's still time to psych yourself up to complete the challenge because it only begins on 2 January. Phew.

Step 2: Work it

Make sure you faithfully stand up every time your Watch nudges you to fulfil your Stand goal. Take the extra long route home to close your Move and Exercise rings. Still not done? Alternate between catching Pokémon and putting in a run at the end of the day.

Rinse and repeat every day until 8 January.

Step 3: Humblebrag

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound? Doubtful, that’s why social media exists. So feel free to share your personal achievement with your friends near and far because it is a global activation.

If you’ve done your due diligence, you'll be notified. New stickers will show up in Activity when you fire up your Messages app.

Achievement unlocked. Now, go forth and conquer 2017, you overachiever, you.
