We’ve seen enough palm-stretching 5.5in phones this year to fill a small hot tub, but the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3C has to be one of the most colourful yet.
It takes what Apple did with the iPhone 5C (RIP) and jacks up the colour saturation a few more notches; if you want a big phone that can pull focus, this isn't a bad shout. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3C comes in yellow, pink, green and red shades as well as the (by contrast) frankly boring white. Our take: embrace the retina-scorching.
Aside from colour you get a 5.5in Full HD screen, an octa-core CPU (exact identity TBC), Android L and a 13MP f/2.0 main camera. It’s just about everything you’d want from a mid-range phone. But is the price going to be as attractive as the dashing shade of Cerise you can splash across its backside? That part we don’t know yet.
Alongside the Idol 3C, Alcatel OneTouch announced a couple of new phones in its Pop range: the Pop Up and the Pop Star (see what they did there?). Both have 5in 720p screens. The Alcatel OneTouch Pop Star is the lower-end of the two, with an 8MP camera to the Up’s 13MP snapper. But it comes with back covers even more eye-catching than the Idol 3C’s, including plenty of patterned ones.
Once again we don’t have prices for these new Pop phones, but given the specs we can’t imagine they’ll bankrupt you.
