More affordable smartphones from Xiaomi has arrived with the Redmi 8 officially launched in Malaysia. Not only are they affordably priced at MYR499, it comes with a massive 5000mAh battery that will give you 2 days of usage after a single charge. Speaking of charge, The Redmi 5 comes with a USB Type-C 18W fast charging support for the first time in this price segment.
In terms of specs, the Redmi 8 is powered by the Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 439 octa-core chipset, featuring a 2+1 dual SIM slot with dedicated microSD card support that allows further storage expansion up to 512GB. With a 6.22-inch (15.8cm) Dot Drop HD+ display, Redmi 8 features an aspect ratio of 19:9, protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, together with a nano-coating makes the smartphone splash resistant. It also has a fingerprint sensor on the back on the device.
In terms of camera, the Redmi 8 features a 12MP + 2MP dual camera setup and the front comes with an 8MP selfie camera and both the front and rear cameras are capable of taking AI Portrait modeshots. Redmi 8 also retains the popular feature which allows users to playback FM radio without the need of connecting their earphones, as well as a convenient IR blaster for remote controlling compatible household electronics.
The Redmi 8 will be available in two variants — 3GB+32GB at MYR499 and 4GB+64GB at MYR 599 and comes in three colours; Onyx Black, Sapphire Blue and Ruby Red. The 4GB+64G version will be available from 12 October 2019 and will be available on Lazada, Shopee and at all Authorised Mi Stores in Malaysia. If you decide to purchase the 4GB+64GB version on 12th October 2019 is entitled to a free Mi Compact Bluetooth Speaker 2 (MYR49).
Meanwhile, the 3GB+32GB version will be available starting from 18th October 2019. This version will be available exclusively online on Lazada and Shopee.
