HMD Global has announced the Nokia 1 Plus, a brand-new member of its Android (Go Edition) smartphone family; and based on its price, you can tell that Nokia is going all out in dominating the starter smartphone market.

Sometimes all you need is a smartphone that does the basic without having to pay for all the fancy features that you're unlikely to use. Nokia has been doing a lot in that market (you can check out our review on the Nokia 3.1 Plus) and now it continues with the release of the Nokia 1 Plus.

Vijay Thangavelu, Country Manager (Malaysia and Myanmar), HMD Global, has shared why they're aiming towards the starter market: “The entry-level range serves the people who want a phone with basic smartphone features. We believe they are after a highly aspirational experience from a brand they know they can trust. With HMD Global’s promise on delivering the best of Android, we aim to excel for those who often feel forgotten. The Nokia 1 Plus, like its predecessor, is an Android Go device. This means that its apps are lighter in weight and use less resources to operate. Other upgrades include a bigger display, high-quality distinctive design and the beautify feature for your selfies.”

The Nokia 1 Plus comes with a mid-segment screen size with a 5.45” IPS 18:9 full screen display. It also had a 8.55mm thinness, which makes it really slim and comfortable.

Now running the latest Android 9 Pie (Go edition), the Nokia 1 Plus is optimised to deliver a smooth and responsive experience that gets better over time. You also get even more space for your photos and videos with free unlimited high-quality photo storage with Google Photos. Android 9 Pie (Go edition) apps are designed to run faster and consume less data. In terms of its camera it has a 8MP auto focus rear camera with LED flash and the 5MP front camera equipped with an advanced MediaTek quad-core CPU for auto focus.

The Nokia 1 Plus will be available from 2 May 2019 at a recommended retail price of MYR 329 for the 1/8GB storage variant. Definitely one of the most affordable smartphones available with the aforementioned specs.
