We’ve all had our fair share of wishful thinking, one of which is to be imbued with the X-Men’s cool mutant powers.
And with X-Men: Days of Future Past hitting our screens this week, we can’t help but get our hopes up that we too can become Children of the Atom. While some see these powers as a curse, the Stuff team considers it a blessing if we manage to be irradiated and have our hidden powers manifest.
Except some of us don’t have the noblest of intentions about how we use these powers...
Name: Professor Charles Francis Xavier
Alias: Professor X
I want to have Professor X's mental powers (along with full use of my lower body please, thank you very much). I'd then become the first man in the world to understand women, and literally be able to read their minds. I imagine being able to control what people do would be super useful as well. "Mr Zuckerberg, please transfer S$10m into my account, I've got a party this weekend. Miss Swanepoel, please bring Alessandra, Rosie, and the rest of the Angels over for said party." It'd be a blast.
Name: Jean Grey
Power: telepathy, telekinesis, Phoenix force
As a kid, I used to imagine that the wind-blown curtains draping my windows were a result of telepathic/telekinetic powers I possessed (true story bro), just like Jean Grey. But now, given those powers, I’d choose to be queen bee and make anyone and everyone do whatever I want – serve me food on a silver platter, give me a palace to live in, the possibilities are endless! But if you get in my way, I’ll be sure to transform into Phoenix and turn you into ash with just a flick of my finger.
Name: James Howlett
Power: healing factor
Who doesn’t love Wolverine’s healing factor? Come on, with it, you could truly live long and prosper, and recover from a nasty cut within seconds. I want that power, but my aspirations aren’t as noble as saving the world or as silly as self-mutilation. Give me the power to drink unlimited shots of whisky (neat, not on the rocks) and not having to deal with a raging hangover the next day. Fine, stop judging me, I’ll probably jump into a fire and save a few damsels in distress once in a while.
Name: Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde
To be honest, I really need the power of teleportation so I'll never have to spend chunks of my bank account and life on flights. But seeing as there aren't any global teleportation powers available, I'll settle for Shadowcat's phasing ability that lets her pass through walls, ghost-like. But really, it's mostly the fact that she has pet alien dragon, Lockheed. Bonus extra powers!
