Telco plans for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus compared

What is the lowest total cost of ownership?

Calculating the total cost of ownership (TCO) is one of the few ways of making sense of these confusing plans. To get this info, we added the cost of the device to the cost of servicing the plan.

The U Mobile i40/32GB iPhone 7 bundle is the cheapest TCO. If we add up the cost of the 24-month contract and the device, you end up spending RM 3689, which is almost as much the 256GB iPhone alone in the U Mobile i60 bundle.

The cheapest total cost of ownership for 128GB and 256GB iPhones are also from U Mobile. TCO of U Mobile i60/32GB iPhone bundle is as much as the cost of a 256GB iPhone in the Digi Smart Plan 148 bundle. U Mobile’s closest competitor is Celcom, whose First Gold/128GB iPhone is cheaper than U Mobile i60/256GB, so it depends on which storage variant of the iPhone you're looking for.

The same goes for iPhone 7 Plus. U Mobile i40 and i60 are somehow positioned as the two lowest prices for 32GB, 128GB and 256GB models. So if you're looking to get the most value for either iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, U Mobile is your best bet.

On the other end, these are the plans with the most expensive TCO

You may be interested to know that a U Mobile i40/128GB iPhone bundle is cheaper than a Celcom First Gold/32GB iPhone. Again, we are talking about total cost of ownership here.

It should be noted that though the devices in U Mobile bundles are generally more expensive, they have some of the lowest total cost of ownership on the market. By contrast, devices in Maxis bundles are the least expensive, but total cost of ownership are some of the highest.

Also among the bundles with high total cost of ownership is Digi Smart Plan 148 for new customers. Though the cost of the plan is the same as for existing customers, the cost of the device pushes total cost of ownership way up.
