Stuff Picks: An adventure buddy you can (accidentally) step on

A Note-able edition of a previously hot phone and some affordable tech-y bits

Sony RX0 (RM3199)

What do you look for when getting a camera for your next adventure? Something waterproof, shockproof and/or crushproof? Well, the Sony RX0 is here to stay and should be included in your travel tech kit.

Featuring a 1.0-type stacked 15.35MP5 Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and ZEISS Tessar T* 24mm F4 fixed wide-angle lens, it has a maximum shutter speed of up to 1/32000 second and the ability to shoot up to 16 fps. You can also connect up to five RX0 cameras wirelessly to the PlayMemories Mobile app to capture different scenes simultaneously.

The RX0 weighs in at only 110g and is about 2in tall which makes it roughly the size of a GoPro Hero6. It has buttons that are easy to navigate without much fumbling and is also waterproof down to 10 metres for up to 60 minutes. The best part: it’s crushproof up to 200kg so if you accidentally step on it while trying to film yourself tap dancing, it’ll be just fine.

Get the Sony RX0 on pre-order for RM3199 at authorised Sony retailers and you'll also score free gifts like a roll bar mount, a monopod and a 32GB Micro SD card. More information on the RX0 can be found here

Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition (RM2699)

The Note Fan Edition is made with unused components from the Galaxy Note 7 in an effort to diminish Samsung’s carbon footprint. The Note FE’s functions and features are similar to the Note 7, including an enhanced S Pen, fingerprint recognition, Bixby Home and Bixby Reminder, and IP68 rating.

It also comes with an upgraded Octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage that’s expandable up to 256GB, plus a new 3200mAh battery that’s gone through Samsung’s 8-point safety check. So if the Note 8 is a bit too much for you, why not try the Fan Edition?

The Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition comes in Coral Blue and Black Onyx, and will be available from 25 October onwards at all Samsung Experience stores and authorised Samsung retailers.

Honor 6A Pro (RM699)

The Honor 6A Pro is an entry-level smartphone, though it looks like anything but with its curved metal design. Inside, it's just as decently packed with a 5in HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 3GB RAM, a 32GB memory expandable up to 128GB with a microSD, and fingerprint identification for added security.

There's a 13MP rear camera with PDAF, which means it can focus in just 0.5 seconds (and take that photo of your cat running away from your suffocating hugs). The 5MP selfie shooter with screen lighting technology and the usual beautification features sounds like it’ll take satisfactory selfies.

The Honor 6A Pro is available in Grey and Gold at participating Honor outlets in Malaysia.

Asus FX553 gaming laptop (RM3499)

Coming in cheaper than a Samsung Note 8 is Asus’ newest entry-level gaming laptop. Packing an Intel Core i5-7300HQ Processor, Windows 10 (64 bit), DRAM DDR4 4G, SATA 1TB and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics, the FX553 isn’t to be sniffed at. The red backlighting that’s ubiquitous in gaming rigs is present in this piece of machinery and it boasts a 2.5mm travel distance for the satisfactory clickety clack and highlighted WASD keys, a larger space bar and isolated arrow keys for more precise controls during campaigns.

The matte finished Full HD 15.6in panel ensures that whether you’re working (haha!) or gaming, glare or reflections won’t be a problem. For those who require extra RAM, the laptop has an extra RAM slot for up to 16GB.

The Asus FX553 is available in Black at participating outlets that can be found here.
