Xiaomi’s cheap Mi5 flagship could say hello at next week’s event

The list of Chinese superphones looks set to grow a little bigger

We could see more than just a simple MiUI 7 and Redmi Note 2 reveal at Xiaomi’s 13 August launch event next week.

The company has also teased a mysterious new device along with its invitation, and it’s likely to be the Mi5 flagship.

The handset is expected to pack in a 2K screen, 16MP camera, 3000mAh battery and a 13MP selfie cam – all of which is slapped with an expected US$390 price tag in China.

Xiaomi’s launch event happens to be on the same day as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 reveal, so it’ll definitely have some competition in the attention-grabbing stakes.

With a low price tag and competitive specs however, it might be worth considering, if it ever decides to leave Chinese shores.
