WhatsApp drops onto desktops, download for Mac or Windows right now

WhatsApp, WhatsApp everywhere

The rumours were true – WhatsApp just launched dedicated desktop apps Windows and Mac users.

WhatsApp is pretty much one of the first things we install on every new phone that makes its way into the Stuff office, and ever since WhatsApp Web turned up, chat fans have been expecting a desktop version.

That arrived today, after weeks of leaks and speculation.

But seeing how there’s already WhatsApp Web, what’s the point of a desktop version? We hear you.

According to WhatsApp, “you’ll have support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, and more.” Plus, you won’t need that pesky extra tab or window open within your already crowded web browser.

To download, hit up this link from your desktop browser (make sure you’re running Windows 8 and above or Mac OS X 10.9 and up) and open the app.

You can’t ditch WhatsApp on your phone entirely, though. You need to open it up to log in to the desktop version.

Go to Settings -> WhatsApp Web on your phone, and scan the QR code that appears on the desktop version when you first open it up.

After that, your conversations will be mirrored on your desktop. Yep, there’s no way you’re ever leaving WhatsApp’s embrace again.
