Samsung leaks Galaxy S6 Edge+ on own site, plus new Edge features rumoured

Ready for this week's announcement? Samsung is, apparently, according to a pulled preorder page

After a wealth of leaks over the past couple months – and some official teases in recent weeks – we’re gearing up to see the Galaxy S6 Edge+ (above right) announced alongside the Galaxy Note 5 at Samsung’s event this Thursday.

Still, if you weren’t convinced by the myriad rumours and reports, maybe this will fit the bill: Samsung accidentally posted a preorder page for the larger curved-screen phone earlier today. It happened over at Samsung France, with the now-pulled page (captured below) promising a free Bluetooth headset and a three-month Google Play Music subscription alongside the phone.

According to the page, preorders would be available from 21 August to 3 September, so does that mean the Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be available the first week of September? That would give Samsung a few days of availability before Apple announces its next iPhones, which we presume is a big part of the reason why its bigger phones are launching early this year.

Or perhaps this promotion is just misrepresented, and sales will actually begin on 21 August. After all, the leaked phone renders up top have that date listed on their lock screens, and that’s often a clue of when to expect a release. We’ll find out very soon, whatever the case.

Also new on the S6 Edge+ front: Phone Probe claims to have received information from a source about how the Edge screen will be better utilized on the larger 5.7in phone, as opposed to the standard 5.1in model from this spring.

The report claims that users will now be able to add a second page to the "People Edge" feature – used to highlight five of your top contacts – with your favorite app shortcuts. That actually splits the difference between the functionality on last year’s Galaxy Note Edge and the standard S6 Edge. The other reported enhancement lets users add more shortcuts to a contact accessed via the Edge, letting you more easily access features like video chat and sending emoticons.

Ready for an extra-large dual-curved phone? The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 should be revealed this Thursday, 13 August, alongside a new tablet – check back then for all the official details.
