Thought the story of Hideo Kojima's departure from Konami was a little light on drama? Well, get this: the Metal Gear Solid auteur's first title as an independent developer will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
Announcing its partnership with the newly formed Kojima Productions, Sony Computer Entertainment confirmed the title will be the first in an original franchise. So far, only this initial title has been confirmed as a PS4 exclusive.
Further details about Kojima's follow up to the well-received Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain weren't forthcoming. Tweeting separately to the announcement, Kojima confirmed his contract with Konami was terminated on December 15th.

Sony's tie-up with Kojima Productions was confirmed in a YouTube video with Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, and Kojima, who said, "I'm happy to let you know that I have established my own independent studio today. And I'm excited to tell you that the first title from this new studio is a collaboration with PlayStation.
"I'm thrilled to embark on creating a new franchise with PlayStation that will give you all a new and innovative gaming experience, so please stay tuned."
Details on Kojima's acrimonious falling out with Konami are few and far between at the moment. That said, it was revealed last week that the The Phantom Pain creator was barred by lawyers for his former employer from attending The Game Awards and receiving a prize for his latest epic.
This one looks set to run and run, folks.
