Thanks to Qualcomm’s new 6-Series chips, 5G will soon come to every hand

5G smartphones will now be more affordable

While most 5G phones announced are in the premium segment, affording one is probably not a piece of cake for the masses. The solution -- make an affordable chipset so everyone can have one.

Qualcomm Technologies has announced its first 5G mobile platform in the 6-series. Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G Mobile Platform is designed to make 5G user experiences even more broadly available around the world.

The SD690 will support 4K HDR (true 10-bit) to capture over a billion shades of colour and snapshots at up to 192MP and support for 120Hz displays With 5G connectivity gamers will have better and faster access to cloud-based, multi-player games virtually anytime, anywhere.

The SD690 is also equipped with Qualcomm AI Engine for smart camera and video, voice translation, advanced AI-based imaging, and AI-enhanced gaming experiences. The chipset is powered by a Qualcomm Kryo 560 CPU that claims to deliver up to 20% performance over its predecessor. And lastly, the new Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System is said to be optimised for the 6-series platform to bring multi-gigabit speeds and superior 5G coverage.

HMD Global, LG Electronics, Motorola, SHARP, TCL, and Wingtech are among the OEMs/ODMs expected to announce smartphones powered by SD690 in the coming months.
