Qualcomm just announced Quick Charge 3+ and it’s blazing fast! Basically, it can charge your smartphone from 0 to 50% in just 15 minutes, which is 35% faster than the older charging system.
With Quick Charge 3+ (QC3+), Qualcomm also worked on the pain points like charging temperature and ensured that the temperature is now 9 degrees cooler than the previous implementation. Since it is aimed at the masses, it’s both backward compatible and will work on easily available USB Type A to Type C cables as well.
However, Qualcomm claims that Quick Charge 3+ has been developed solely for premium mid-range smartphones. The first one to get it is Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Lite Zoom and it's powered by a Snapdragon 765G chipset. Oddly, the Mi 10 Lite Zoom also gets Quick Charge 4+. Qualcomm also mentioned that QC3+ will only be available for smartphones with a Snapdragon 765 and 765G chipsets for now. Other platforms will get the new charging tech later. With various new implementations, the chipmaker also hopes that it makes Quick Charging more affordable so that it can be implemented in lower priced handsets in the future.
