Philips puts the pixels where its mouth is

Back from the nether lands, India’s favourite TV brand re-enters the market with a new line of 4K UHD TVs

In an event that took all afternoon after a delayed start and lots of celeb chatter (read Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Atul Kasbekar and Ranvijay), the curtains were raised on the brand new range of Philips 4K televisions, their first for the Indian market.

After a long hiatus, Philips makes a comeback with some flagship tellys that sport their trademark Ambilight ambient light, 400Hz refresh rate for judder-free motion and Active 3D mode amongst other highlights.

The Ambilight can be set to different moods and can even be used without any picture, adding mood to your room. You can control how aggressive is its nature or just lock it in one hue, all through a smart app on your phone too. If you do wish to use the remote control, you’ll be in for a surprise too - it comes with a full QWERTY keyboard on the flip side, making it easy to input long-ish username/password combos on various apps and services. Unfortunately, we couldn’t test its IQ since it was a Smart TV launch without any Wi-Fi at the venue!

Picture quality remains to be tested in our video labs but with Micro Dimming and 4K upscaling, we have high hopes from it. Wi-Fi is built in and so is Miracast Mirroring making it a fully-features television, capable of taking on the Korean and Japanese brands.

The three different models are basically different sizes of 50in, 58in and 65in. Prices range from 1,55,000 to 3,72,500.
