Oppo targets selfie nuts with a 16MP front-facing camera

Software enhancements like panoramic selfie and screen flash should make your smile wider

We might constantly be poking fun at selfie addicts, but we must admit, everyone likes having good snaps of themselves. Just leave the duck face pout at home, will you?

It’ll take us a minute before we get to the ‘Selfie Expert’ part of the F1 Plus, so bear with us as we tell you about the other specs first. What we have here is a metal-bodied 5.5in device running on Oppo’s ColorOS 3.0 (based on Android Lollipop). The Full-HD display is an AMOLED one, so you’re guaranteed deep blacks, and there’s also a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor and 4GB RAM to keep things humming along nicely when you’re swapping between Instagram and Facebook. Apart from that, you get 64GB storage (expandable by 128GB), dual-SIM (second slot shared with the microSD slot), a 2850mAh battery, Oppo’s VOOC Fast Charging and a fingerprint scanner - which Oppo says can unlock your phone in less than 0.2 seconds.

But the whole point of something with the moniker ‘Selfie Expert’ has to be, surprise, surprise, photos. More specifically, photos of you and your friends grinning away to glory while gathered in front of a blueberry cheesecake, ideally at some beach shack in Goa. (Yes, we know how you feel about people who do that, but admit it, we’re all guilty of selfie-itis.)

That’s why Oppo has fitted a 16MP, f/2,0 camera at the front and claims not just hardware improvements but also software ones - there’s a ‘special pixel arrangement’ to boost low-light performance and you’ll find Oppo’s Beautify 4.0, along with other concessions to your vanity: Panoramic selfie, palm shutter and screen flash. As for the rear camera, it’s got a 13MP resolution and Phase-Detect AF.

So how much will it cost to get what Oppo says are the best selfies around? 26,499. Seems like a lot, but if we know selfie nuts, they won’t mind!
