Budget phones still tend to have smallish screens, but the new Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3 is here to change all that.
The new model in the series has a 5.5-inch display, getting you Galaxy Note style dimensions without sucking every last 2p from your wallet. We don’t know the official India price yet, but the whole Pixi series is all about mobile thrills at a bargain basement price.
One potentially confusing spanner in the works, though, is that the 5.5-inch Pixi 3 comes in 3G and 4G versions, but there are more differences between them than just how swiftly they download cat videos.
The 3G Pixi 3 has a 960 x 540 pixel IPS screen while the 4G one has more pixels, with 720p resolution, but a non-IPS TFT display. They also have slightly different batteries and different CPUs.
But either way this is not a phone for people who are going to spend afternoons agonising over specs. More like which of the Dulux paint chart-like nine shades of 5.5-inch Pixi 3 you should buy.
Confused by all the choice? Don’t worry, it’s likely we’ll only see a couple of versions actually on sale in the UK. It’s a waiting game. But keep this bit in mind: giant screen, (potentially) very low price.
