There’s a long-running battle on to create the world’s lightest, slimmest phone, and it seems we might have reached the limit with the Canvas Sliver 5. But with 4G and an 8MP camera that uses a Sony sensor, this might be more than just a pretty face.
The Canvas Sliver 5 uses a metal-and-glass body that weighs a mere 97g – or, as their launch show put it, probably less than that apple you had for breakfast. Does that make it the world’s lightest phone? We’re guessing yes, unless there’s a feather-and-foam device somewhere. But more than the weight, Micromax is proud of how svelte the Sliver 5 is – it’s uniformly 5.1mm thick, without any unsightly camera bulges, making it the slimmest phone you can get.
Inside is a 64-bit Snapdragon 410, certainly not the fastest chip around, but hey, at least the battery life should be good. That’s a relief because the Sliver 5 has a mere 2000mAh battery, but we’re guessing that with the slim build, even this is an achievement. You also get 2GB RAM and 16GB storage (not expandable). On the connectivity front, the Sliver 5 has 4G, which means it’s ready for Airtel’s LTE rollout – in fact, there’s a 4G SIM and a ‘double data’ offer bundled with the Sliver 5.
You also get a 4.8in HD AMOLED screen, making it one of those rare phones you can actually use with one hand. As for the camera, at the back is an 8MP camera that uses Sony’s IMX 219 sensor, while at the front is a 5MP unit. Pricing? Well, at ₹17,999, you’re certainly paying a premium for the design, but we have to admit, the Sliver 5’s looks might just be justification enough.
