The latest phone from Gionee is thin. Absurdly thin.

It's also the first ultra-slim phone that supports Dual-Sim and 4G LTE

That’s just numbers, how thin does that make it? Well. The iPhone 6 everyone went gaga about has a thickness of 6.9mm. The amazingly thin iPad Air 2 is 6.1mm. The Gionee Elife S7? It’s thinner than both.

The phone was launched at an extravagant event in Hyderabad and the CEO of the company, Mr. Arvind Vohra made his entry by swinging down from the rafters. We aren’t kidding. This happened. We were there. Gionee went all out to promote this device and is promising us it has struck the perfect balance with the Elife S7. The phone features a full metal skeleton design that is apparently inspired by the ‘U shape design of railway tracks’. We don’t know what that means either but it looks and feels great. The ergonomic side profile is touted to provide comfortable grip for one handed use. The body is made out of an aluminium magnesium alloy and the 5.2in Super AMOLED display shines brightly with a pixel density of 424.

Glass all around

The S7 has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the front AND the back of the phone, effectively making it completely scratch-proof. Words can not describe how much we appreciate this. Too many beautiful devices have been made ugly by putting on cases because we’re scared of scratching or breaking the darn things. Gorilla Glass 3 everywhere. Apple we hope you’re listening.

The S7 chugs along happily on 2GB of RAM and an Octa-core Mediatek processor clocking 1.7GHz. It runs Android 5.0 with Gionee’s own custom skin, the Amigo 3.0. The 2700mAh battery does not sound huge compared to some other players in the market but Gionee is claiming easy full day usage. It also throws in an ‘Extreme Mode’ that freezes all functions except calling and texts when battery level falls below 10%, thereby extending your battery to potentially last for over 33 hours on standby.

snap happy

More and more smartphone manufacturers are paying special attention to cameras and Gionee isn’t far behind. The phone features a 13MP/8MP camera set packed with the company’s self developed ‘Image+’ image processing system. The front cam incorporates something they’re calling ‘Intelligent Face Beauty 3.0 Technology’. We will stand firmly behind the firm if they fire the person coming up with these names.

According to Gionee, the S7 is the first ultra slim phone that supports Dual-Sim and 4G LTE.

Priced at 24,999, this is a compelling device. It looks great and the specs are pretty decent. The one place where Gionee falters is the storage. For some reason the phone just has 16GB of internal storage and no expandable memory. If you can move past that and have a thing for super slim gadgets, the Elife S7 is something to consider.

What? Are you looking for another reason, one that warms your heart? Gionee India is pretty invested in the fight against Leukemia, especially with children. For every mobile phone sold here, Gionee has pledged a certain amount of money to ‘Leukemia Crusaders’. There you go. Do it for the kids.
