Here’s how LiDar could help prevent COVID-19

You need to respect the instructions, though

While COVID-19 has moved humans apart from each other like repelling magnets placed in a tray, this new Australia-based Kickstarter project will probably help us maintain that distance.

Sadly, the project is still in funding stage, but will probably be the best gadget, ready for any future epidemic. The Social Distancing Badge does what it says – it displays the current distance to the closest target in front of it, on an easy-to-read LCD display. The badge gets its measurements with millimetre precision using an eye-safe laser-based LiDAR sensor.

This readout gives others the confidence necessary to maintain the correct distance from you during uncertain times. This badge is based out of an Arduino firmware and an eye-safe VL53L1 Infra-red LiDAR sensor to measure up to 4 metres ahead of it; it comes with a rechargeable 100mah Li-Ion cell that can last up to 50 hours.

The project has already reached its goal and will soon start creating these badges. Hope to see these on shelves at the earliest – shipped free to you in May 2020 if you pledged AU$50 or more. Check out the project on Kickstarter.
