It prides itself on its smartphones’ photography skills. And here’s what’s on its way next – a new OIS system and a periscopic zoom lens.
MWC Barcelona? Isn’t that when most of us prepare our shopping lists for the year ahead? Well, here’s something new from Oppo that should be certainly more than a stocking stuffer – its 5X camera tech.
It’s been a year in the making and has resulted in 50 new patents. Serious stuff, we’d say. Oppo’s decided to focus on two fronts here. One is the new Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) system – it promises 40% better stabilisation.
Paired with that is a new optical prism and periscope-inspired zoom lens arrangement – the prism helps turn the zoom system 90° around so it lays flat against the phone, giving you a camera module that’s just 5.7mm thick.
The new optical prism also adjusts its angle in increments as fine as 0.0025°, which Oppo says guarantees crisp shots even when you’re zoomed in five times.
As of now, there’s no word on when this 5X lossless zoom tech will make it to Oppo’s phones, but we’d wager its next flagship might just put that smile on your face! Meanwhile, check out Oppo’s mobile range at its website.
