The 560hp RS6 Avant is a family estate on steroids

A twin-turbo V8 makes this a lot better than your grandad’s ancient estate

With a 0-100 time of 3.9s, the new RS6 Avant can embarrass many a supercar

It’s mad. Very, very mad. It’s the RS6 Avant - Audi’s recently launched super-estate that packs in a 4.0 TFSI V8 with power figures of 560hp and 700Nm. That’s what we’d normally describe as ‘insane’, but when we’re talking about these kind of figures from an estate, a more apt choice would be ‘ludicrous’. All that power and torque is fed to Audi’s legendary Quattro AWD system through an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox. Oh, you want more numbers? Here: 0-100 in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 305kmph.

The school run never looked so glamorous...

Great, but is there more to the Audi RS6 Avant or is it merely the fastest means of transporting two kids and a shaggy dog? Er, a lot, lot more. For starters, it looks delicious, with a low, squat stance, fat, 20in wheels, the discreet RS badges and an overall menacing countenance that makes it clear this is meant for greater things than the school run or weekend grocery shopping. In fact, it’s so striking that at the launch, even star cricketer Virat Kohli found himself overshadowed.

The Audi way of staying comfy even at nearly 300kmph

Step inside, and you’ll find enough leather to stir up PETA, 4-zone climate control, a heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof, MMI Navigation with MMI touch and a choice between a 14-speaker, 600W Bose sound system or a 15-speaker, 1200W one from Bang & Olufsen.

With all that, you’d expect the RS6 Avant to be stratospherically priced. And you’d be right, ‘cos this deliciously mad estate will run you ‘just’ 1.35 crore (ex-showroom).
