Instead of the usual facelift formality, Volvo has given its ageing XC90 a new reason to exist. And that reason is to be the world’s only 3-seater SUV; and what’s more, India is probably the only market in the world to get this version! Dubbed the Excellence Lounge, this limited edition, ₹1.42cr behemoth is also a plug-in hybrid that gets a combined power output of 407bhp from its electric motor and supercharged 4cyl, 2.0 turbo-petrol engine. Luxury is paramount as the front passenger seat is sacrificed to open up acres of legroom for the rear passengers, who also get champagne flutes by Orrefors, Bowers & Wilkins headsets for personal listening and a fold out screen. Less than 15 cars will be made available in the first lot. And even at its hefty price, it seems like a meaningful indulgence if you’re the captain of your industry.
