The staple of celebrities, the 40-year G-Wagen had recently been given a complete overhaul, but today was the first time that the butch off-roader entered Indian soil with a diesel heart. The non-AMG version is powered by a 286bhp/600Nm inline 6-cylinder engine and is also BS6 compliant. Compared to the AMG version, it’s not much slower with a 0-100kmph time of 7.4secs and can also wade through water or conquer a mountain with the same efficacy, but you won’t get the same aural orgasm through the side-mounted exhaust pipes like on the AMG version. Even then, you get radar-guided cruise control, lane keeping assist, a Burmester hi-fi system and a pair of 12.3in screens in the dash that make this G350d the ultimate hybrid of Schwarzenegger and Sherzinger. Its ex-showroom price tag of ₹1.5cr is a massive ₹70 lakhs lower than the brute brother. So whether you’re a celebrity or not, you can still dream for a spot for this G in your garage!
