You might have seen a few of ‘em out on the road and for good reason. The Jeep Compass has been the success story FCA has been looking for in India for a long time and now with the extreme Trailhawk version launching soon, the Compass gets bigger wings! For starters, it is more advanced. Ironic, huh? But wearing the Trail Rated badge is no joke and Jeep experts take it very seriously. Suspension with frequency sensitive dampers, air-intake placed higher up for more water fording depth, redesigned bumpers and exhaust for more extreme approach and departure angles, 4WD low-ratio with a Rock mode on the terrain selector knob and the most important of all, the new 9-speed automatic gearbox. A first in class, this transmission is mated to the 170bhp/350Nm diesel motor that is optimised for power low in the rev band. For the techies, there’s a new auto start/stop system that is more intelligent, an upgraded audio system with six speakers, 8.4in touchscreen with U-connect app sync, voice control and improved on-board maps and a huge panoramic sunroof. There’s also cruise control as standard along with 17in dual-tone alloy wheels and all-weather tires, so really, there’s no excuse for driving just to the mall over the weekend.
