Without the usual fanfare, blunted by the raging pandemic, Mercedes Benz mutedly announced the availability of its 2021 model year GLA. But it looks like the wait was worth its weight in gold since we’re getting not one, not two, but three different variants of this popular compact SUV. The petrol-powered GLA200 is a front-wheel-drive only model which is priced at ₹42.1lacs while the diesel variants come with the option of the GLA 220d (₹43.7lacs) or the GLA220d 4Matic for ₹46.7lacs. The 4WD variant will also get 19in wheels and an AMG body kit. But, if you’re looking for more poke, the GLA 35 4M AMG ticks the box for a fairly attainable Rs. 57.3lacs and packs in a 306hp/400Nm 4-cyl petrol engine, AMG specific suspension and transmission, twin screens running the MBUX operating system, smartphone control with Google Home and Alexa integration, 12-speaker Burmester sound system and much more. More importantly, all the GLA variants get an 8-year warranty on engine and transmission which is best in class, along with a 3-year comprehensive warranty so justifying the outlay to the better half won’t be as hard. Hopefully.
