So what’s your excuse to not buy that 4K TV now?
Early adopters usually take one for the team and it was true in the case of 4K too. The long-awaited format promised four times the resolution of HD and overzealous videophiles started dropping wads of cash on first-generation 4K televisions, but couldn’t find any 4K material barring some demo content on Tata Sky’s STB and a few nature clips if they were resourceful.
But all that’s about to end as Excel Home Video has just dropped the best news on us since the announcement of 4K itself. As the official home entertainment licensee for Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros., MGM and DreamWorks Animation for India, it represents these studios for all physical formats and these included Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, DVD and now, 4K UHD too!
To be available through Amazon and other specialist channels, they are the only way to get true, uncompressed 4K video at home.
The essentials of UHD
As keen enthusiasts would already know, to achieve true 4K resolution in the home, you need to see through the entire playback chain and that includes a UHD Blu-ray player, high-speed HDMI cable, a 4K telly and last but not the least, 4K software. In the first wave of 4K UHD releases by Excel, titles like Trolls, Exodus, Ice Age 5: Collision Course, Independence Day: Resurgence, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Storks, The LEGO Movie, The Legend of Tarzan, Creed, Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and more will make the cut.
There’s also a healthy selection from the back catalogue, remastered with HDR and some even with Dolby Atmos immersive audio and these include I am Legend, Gravity, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2, Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince etc. The discs currently launched are certified ULTRA HD PREMIUM that comply with performance metrics for resolution, high dynamic range (HDR), peak luminance, black levels and wide color gamut among others. The specifications also make recommendations for immersive audio and other features.
These advances in resolution, contrast, brightness, color and audio will enable certified displays and content to replicate the richness of life’s sights and sounds and allow in-home viewers to more fully and accurately experience the content creator’s vision.
Ready for take-off
“We are very excited to yet again lead the way with introducing the most advanced and innovative technologies in the physical home entertainment first in India, this is actually great news for 4K UHD hardware owners as there is no better way to enjoy the hardware but with the UHD Blu-ray discs we officially provide as of now.” says Muslim Kapasi, CEO, Excel Home Videos.
Priced at ₹2,999 for a pack of two discs (UHD+BD), this is super value even if you don’t have a 4K player yet but will eventually upgrade to one. Amazon India currently carries all the titles imported by Excel Home Video and is the best way to kickstart a kickass collection to see through another couple of format generations. Future proof yourself, we say!
