My gadget life - Ram Sampath

The singer on his addiction with all things Apple, his aversion to phones that blow up, and being an audio geek!

I can’t live without my…

iPhone 7 Plus.

And it’s accompanied by…

My Airpods, and the headphones that travel with me most - the Sennheiser HD 650.

I’m looking forward to...

... the Tesla in India.

I’d never be caught dead with...

... phones that blow up, though I’m really not that discriminatory when it comes to brands.

My favourite exercise equipment is

My Apple watch.

Apps I’m addicted to...

I’m addicted to almost everything on my iPhone. I use Music Memos a lot, GarageBand, and a few other music making apps. I also like Noise by Roli - it’s quite a beautiful app.

Thankfully I don’t have any

Social media addictions!

My dream gadget would be...

The Sennheiser HE1 headphones!

The funkiest gadget I’ve ever owned is a

Roland Keytar, a keyboard guitar.

My first gadget ever was

A Nokia 3310. Everybody had it.

The studio equipment I can’t do without...

The Antelope Audio Gear – I have the Antelope Audio Eclipse, which is a mastering grade stereo A-to-D and D-to-A. Its 384khz resolution is very beautiful and it’s very important to my audio chain. It’s the key to my studio sound -  it’s an indispensable part of my set-up. Then there’s the 10m Iridium clock (an atomic clock!) - which comes with Antelope Audio - that’s crucial too. I’m an audio geek, so things I can’t live without are all things audio. My Genelec 8240 nearfield monitors are also crucial to me, along with my main speakers, which are the Genelec 1238A CFs and 7071A subwoofer, which is big enough to take down a building.

My prized possessions for stereo listening...

I have a beautiful set of JM Focals floorstanding speakers for my music with a separate Denon amp that I use only for my music, and a Denon CD player. I have a separate amplifier for surround sound. It’s ridiculous that I have two amps for two separate things, but that’s the way it is!
