Binge Guide: What to watch on OTT platforms this weekend

Our pick of the best that the streaming services have to offer. [Sep 3 2021]

September has kicked off with a bang. With the weekend upon us, we have a long list of things to watch, so it’s time to complete all the pending work, shut your laptop for good, and get ready for some binging.

From the return of a Spanish show that’s sent waves around the world to a blockbuster movie from the Marvel universe, there’s something for everyone. We don’t want you to waste a second wondering where to start or what to watch. So here’s a handy guide on the best new shows or movies to catch up this weekend across popular OTT streaming platforms.

Disney+ Hotstar

Black Widow

If there was an Avenger who deserved their own movie, it was Black Widow. And our wish came true when the Scarlett Johansson-starrer released worldwide on July 9. It has now arrived in India, and can be watched on Disney+ Hotstar. The story revolves around Russian agent Natasha Romanoff and her life before she became an Avenger.

Money Heist (Season 5)

Netflix has proven that good content can transcend language barriers, and no show better typifies this than Money Heist. The Spanish heist drama is back again for the last time with volume one of season five streaming today. We can’t wait to see what the Professor has up its sleeves as his team robs the Bank of Spain.

Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror

The name pretty much tells you everything you can expect from this five-part docuseries. Turning Point, directed by Brian Knappenberger, brings you stories and perspectives of the 9/11 terror attack that completely changed the USA, and the global war on terror.

Amazon Prime Video

You should watch this not just for being a modern-day reimagination of the classic fairytale, but also because it’s the acting debut of singer Camila Cabello. The twist in the tale is that modern-day Cinderella isn’t simply swayed by prince charming, and instead rejects his proposal to follow her dream of becoming a businesswoman.

Continuing with the rom-com theme is the Vishwak Sen-starrer Paagal. Directed by Naressh Kuppili, the story is about a casanova finally meeting a girl that he desires and is ready to change his lifestyle for. He is ready to give up on all the girls he dated, only for the girl of his dreams to turn him away.

If the trailer was anything to do by, Helmet will be a laughter riot with an important message at the end. The story is about three men wanting to start a business selling condoms to those who aren’t comfortable buying them from a local store or chemist. Directed by Satramm Ramani, the movie stars Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, Pranutan Bahl, Ashish Verma and Sharib Hashmi.

Lionsgate Play

The Father

If you’re in the mood for some Oscar-winning-level content, then you should check out The Father on Lionsgate Play. Based on the 2012 play Le Père, the movie stars acting powerhouses Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman.
