Gadget of the Year 2018

Awards Winner
A complete overhaul of the world’s favourite tablet made for the most interesting Apple event this year! A full-screen iPad Pro, sans the home button and loaded with more silicon than Mrs. Anderson. With hardware that rivals every desktop PC and trumps most, the A12x Bionic chip is clearly the hero that does the heavy lifting here. At just 5.9mm, it is the thinnest iPad ever and also the lightest at just over 630gms but what is most apparent when you hold it in your hands is the new, flatter profile that has a perfectly balanced weight for the perfect feel in your hands. It may not be the laptop replacement a lot of nerds were hoping for, but the sheer joy of using your fingers or that beautiful new magnetic Pencil on the gorgeous Liquid Retina screen makes you want to never put this thing down. It’s just that good and capable.

The runners up

Probably the most tech-packed phone ever released (until the next one), Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro has a fingerprint scanner built into the screen, three cameras on the back and is surprisingly compact for its size.

Want to block out the outside world? Join the club or buy a pair of Sony’s WH-1000XM3 noise-cancelling headphones, which sound great and do a brilliant job of blocking out the hullabaloo.

With its larger screen, electrical heart sensor and clever fall-sensing tech, the Series 4 cemented the Watch as an important part of any Apple fan’s tech arsenal. Pricey though, isn’t it?
