Bose SoundSport Free
If you’re still not entirely sold on the idea of true wireless earphones, Bose’s chunky SoundSport Frees probably won’t change your mind.
Their extra bulk means they stick out more than most other pairs but that doesn’t make the fit precarious. Bose’s StayHear tips come in three sizes and have little wings that fit inside your ear and hold the buds in place without being intrusive. We found them to be comfortable, although everybody’s lugs are different.
Part of the reason for their chunkiness is the set of buttons built into the top edge of the right earpiece. Unlike some pairs, these offer full control over both playback and volume, although they’re not the nicest to use.
Put them in your ears and press play and you’ll hear a bold sound with no lack of low-end authority. Highs are crisp but never harsh, resulting in a solid, well-balanced performance. There’s no noise-cancelling, but that’s probably for the best considering you’ll likely to be concentrating on smashing split times when wearing them.
You can get the Frees in four different finishes but the case they come in is always plain black. This adds an extra 10 hours to the five-hour battery life you get from the buds, which means you shouldn’t have to worry about charging them up every night.
The only other downside? Wireless connectivity can be a touch flakey, which costs them a star.
They'll wow you with their sound quality and features, but the occasionally flaky connection is impossible to ignore
