TV Gadget of the Year 2018

Awards Winner
It’s all well and good having a 4K TV, but you can’t marvel at that pristine display without some Ultra HD content to show off what it can do. Enter Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K, complete with a fresh-faced Alexa voice-controlled remote that makes finding all of those super high-def shows and movies an absolute doddle. It's also the first Fire TV Stick to support Dolby Vision and HDR10+, helped by a hefty quad-core, 1.7GHz processor for faster streaming. Oh, and did we mention all of that power can be nabbed for a nifty fifty quid? In a category filled with fierce competition, the Fire TV Stick 4K wins out for leaving some extra bunce in our back burner to buy the best content.

The runners-up

Packed with features and offering access to pretty much any streaming service you could possibly want to subscribe to, Roku’s 4K HDR Ultra box is a veritable jack of all trades and a master of most.

Sky Q (£20 + £20 /month)

If you love football so much you’ll even rush home on a Monday night to watch Cardiff v Crystal Palace, a Sky Q box is really your only option, especially with Netflix now built in. Pricey though, isn’t it?

If you just want to watch Netflix on your telly there really aren’t many easier ways to do it than with a Chromecast. Although with TV interfaces getting better all the time, are its days numbered?

Slick and speedy with Dolby Atmos support and a decent range of films available via iTunes, Apple TV 4K is undoubtedly impressive, but at £179 for the 32GB version, there are much cheaper ways to watch Ultra HD.
